This spring, five SCC Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) students have two graduations to attend - their high school graduation and their college graduation from South Central College (SCC). The Minnesota PSEO program allows 10th, 11th and 12th-grade students to enroll in college or university classes free of charge, earning both college and high school credits upon successful class completion. While most PSEO students take just a few college or university classes, these motivated students took more and are earning both their high school diploma and a degree from South Central College:

SCC Faribault Campus PSEO Students
:

Bailey Hopwood from Faribault High School will receive her 2-year Associate of Arts degree from SCC.
“I decided to pursue PSEO to challenge myself with my schoolwork and push myself to excel academically. Being told I had enough credits to graduate with my AA degree at the end of my senior year by my counselor was a pleasant surprise.”

Kate Bloomberg from IQ Academy Minnesota will receive her 2-year Medical Laboratory Technician Associate of Applied Science degree from SCC.“I love to learn and I love science. The classes themselves were challenging, but it gave me an incredible opportunity to study biology and medical science in a way I couldn’t have done in high school. I just finished a 19 week internship with Allina Health and they have offered me a position at one of their clinics.”

SCC North Mankato Campus PSEO Students
:

Amina Khalif from Saint Peter High School will receive her Associate of Arts degree from SCC.
“I heard I would be knocking off both college and high school credits. The benefits of PSEO are getting college experience and seeing how things worked, and also getting my prerequisites for my future major done. I plan to come back to SCC to pursue my nursing degree.”

James Meagher from Mankato East High School will receive his Civil Engineering Technology Associate of Applied Science degree from SCC. “I pursued PSEO to give myself a head start at life and to save money. The pace of college encouraged me to do my best. I will continue my education at Minnesota State University, Mankato in Civil Engineering.”

Kiara Newman from Minnesota Virtual Academy will receive her Welding Certificate from SCC
“I pursued PSEO because both of my older sisters did it and I knew I eventually wanted to go to college, but didn’t necessarily want student loan debt. My parents loved the idea and supported my decision 110%. It saves them money and they know that I am pursuing something I love. I plan to go on and do my AA degree through SCC.”
