Covid-19 Campus Community Information and SCC Keep Learning Student Resources

South Central College (SCC) has announced plans to welcome students back to both the Faribault and North Mankato campuses for face-to-face classes this fall.  As in the past, online classes will also continue to be offered.  “While our students’ lives have changed with the COVID-19 pandemic, this fall semester at South Central College will look similar to previous years, with the addition of appropriate health and safety measures put into place,” said SCC President Annette Parker.

As always, SCC students will have access to three different course delivery methods based on their program needs and learning style:

  • On Campus Classes:  Students will again be able to receive face-to-face instruction. To ensure their health and safety, facemasks will be provided and social distancing will be implemented in classrooms, with students six feet apart. This means some classes will be moved into larger spaces and others will have fewer students in the classroom at a time. Knowing that C0VID-19 could again require classes to move to an online delivery method, the hands-on components of the on campus classes will be completed during the beginning of the semester when possible.
  • Online Classes: SCC has long offered online classes. With the order that no classes be offered on campus during the second half of spring semester, faculty members transitioned their instruction to online. As a result of this necessary adaptation, the number of online classes offered has increased.
  • Hybrid Classes:  Over the past decade, many SCC students have opted for classes that offer this delivery method, which includes a combination of on-campus and online instruction. Given the future uncertainty of COVID-19, more students may select this option in the near future.

“In recent months our students have experienced so many changes,” said Parker. “With our plans for fall semester, we are taking the steps necessary to ensure a consistent educational experience.”

The 2020 fall semester begins on August 24, with registration now open. Students can also now register for the 2021 spring semester, which starts on January 11. The college has also rolled out a new feature, Automatic Course Registration, which enables students pursing technical fields to sign up to be automatically registered for their required courses each semester.

South Central College’s Center for Business and Industry is also continuing to offer workforce education through various delivery methods based on the needs of companies and professionals in the region.
